The School of Social, Historical and Literary Studies, in association with the Centre for Studies in literature, seeks to appoint a fixed-term Research Associate to work on ‘Celebrities, Fans, and Muses’, a research project that maps the global reach of local/regional celebrity figures in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, and the cultural impact of celebrated texts, films, and artworks.

As part of this project, the successful candidate would engage in archival research, utilising Portsmouth City Council’s Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, which includes Richard Lancelyn Green’s Collection of papers, books and memorabilia, and collections at Dimbola Galleries and Museum, Freshwater, Isle of Wight.

The Research Associate’s role would be to examine these currently under-researched archives and to identify and prioritise material that will contribute to the development of external funding bids. A research background in Doyle and/or Sherlock Holmes studies would be an advantage. The Research Associate will also be expected to provide administrative support for a workshop on Celebrity and the Cultural Field at the University of Portsmouth.
