The University of Portsmouth is a dynamic and ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The University of Portsmouth Business School is looking to appoint an Academic Learning Support Leader to Lead a team of Study Support Tutors.

The role is a chance for you to lead a vibrant Study Support Team and become a vital force in supporting and deploying the expertise and energies of the team effectively. It involves supporting the team in their day to day activities, developing and monitoring the academic support services to enable students to meet their academic potential.

This is a student-facing role, designed around the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate business and law students. The Business School’s Learning Support Tutors enable students registered within the faculty to enhance their skills, through tutorials and interventions, and by developing relevant resources for use by students and staff.  The leader will need to be able to work with the team of academic support tutors organising operational aspects of the work, including diagnostic tests, session delivery, lecturing to groups of students and giving group and bespoke advice to students.  Candidates will be expected to maintain and develop scholarly understanding of the discipline to maintain their currency.

Specifically we are looking for applicants with leadership and management skills, both general academic and business/legal skills and abilities to work with our home and international students, and with those students studying at a distance. It is also important that you have a 2.1 degree in a relevant subject, such as business or law, and a sound understanding of support provision. A post graduate qualification would be desirable.  You must be willing to network within and beyond the university to develop the service, to work sympathetically with the existing team and be willing to appraise and adapt the practice of the service with the changing demands of students.

A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service clearance at Enhanced level is also required.

The University of Portsmouth believes this role may be eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements set out before applying for this role. If you are unable to meet the requirements for sponsorship you will need to confirm details of an alternative visa to work in the UK when applying for this role.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, or from other ethnic groups who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
