We are seeking to appoint to the position of lecturer or senior lecturer in the area of Bioinformatics. The department is well regarded as shown in league tables (3rd in the Guardian league table) and has good student satisfaction in this subject area. At an institutional level, we have recently been awarded Gold standard in the Teaching Excellence Framework. In addition to this the School performed very well in the Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), is ranked 3rd among the post-92 institutions in this subject area (UoA7) and reported 72% of its research as being world leading or internationally excellent We were also in the top 20 institutions for UoA3 where we were reported as having 90% of our research as being world leading or internationally excellent with 100% of the impact from our research classified as 4*/3*; having outstanding and very considerable impacts in terms of reach and significance.
The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching in the area of Bioinformatics with experience in the use of R and python, and the analysis of next generation sequencing data. An understanding of the biological and evolutionary theory underpinning bioinformatics is essential. They would also be expected to contribute to the general teaching activities and pastoral care at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
We are seeking an individual that is able to use their knowledge and skills, not only to further develop their own research, but also to collaborate with colleagues and to strengthen research within our established research areas within the School.
In addition to holding a PhD and having published in relevant peer-reviewed journals, it is essential that the appointee is able to demonstrate experience of teaching in the areas described in addition to more general aspects of Biological Sciences.
