The Department of Psychology offers a vibrant and supportive academic community with an excellent teaching environment and opportunities for professional development for staff. Consistent feedback suggests that we are a warm and collegiate Department committed to equality, diversity and reducing ‘awarding gaps’ that exist in HE.  We hold a Bronze Athena Swan award.  We provide an exceptional educational experience for all of our students stemming from a research- informed teaching ethos, highly effective and supportive personal tutoring across UG and PGT courses, and work placement opportunities for all UG students.  We consistently achieve excellent progression rates and low withdrawal rates across our UG and PGT courses. In short, we offer an incredibly rewarding place to work.

Our Department comprises four research centres/groups; the Quality of Life, Health and Well-Being Research Group, the Centre for Interaction, Development and Diversity, the Centre for Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology, and the International Centre for Research in Forensic Psychology.  Our facilities include EEG, eye tracking and psychophysiology labs, virtual reality and motion detection labs, interviewing suites and a baby/infant lab. We have links to local NHS trusts, schools, nurseries and zoos. More details of our research groupings can be found here: https://www.port.ac.uk/research/research-areas/psychology. We are committed to the values of open and reproducible science and are working to support and encourage transparent research practices.

Situated on the south coast of England, Portsmouth is one of the most picturesque, welcoming, and interesting places to live in the UK and was voted the No. 7 most popular city in the UK (YouGov, 2021).  It is home to beautiful beaches, miles and miles of green spaces, cultural and artistic hotspots, great shopping, and restaurants.  Getting around the city is simple, with plenty of buses running at almost all hours, a flat landscape that's easy to cycle, and university buildings are within easy walking distance of each other.  London is just a 90-minute train ride away and, if you're travelling further afield, Southampton airport is nearby and there are regular ferries from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight and France.

The University of Portsmouth believes this role may be eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements set out before applying for this role. If you are unable to meet the requirements for sponsorship you will need to confirm details of an alternative visa to work in the UK when applying for this role.

We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered.

We are strongly dedicated to embedding equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within our community. As an Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charter award holder, a member of Stonewall and a Disability Confident Employer we are passionate about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, regardless of your background. We welcome applications from all talented people. In addition, we want our workforce to be representative of our diverse student population. Please see our EDI Framework and objectives.
